Terrestrial Vertebrate Ecology
This group develops research on the ecology of mammals, reptiles, and birds; it also conducts studies on biodiversity conservation and management in the Middle Solimões region, state of Amazonas. It emphasizes the use of fauna by traditional peoples, with special attention on hunting for consumption and sale and conflicts between humans and different animal species.
Monitoring
The Fauna Monitoring System (O Sistema de Monitoramento de Uso da Fauna - SMUF) was implemented by the Mamirauá Institute more than 15 years ago in the Amanã Sustainable Development Reserve, in Amazonas state. Monitoring consists of the continuous collection of information on hunting events and of collecting biological material in five rural communities in the reserve. .
